Metabolic Typing is a way to discover what your unique dietary requirements are as it relates to your individual genetics. How we respond to the food we eat is as unique as we are.
Think about it like this: Some people are diesel engines, some are unleaded, and some are steam engines. All require a different type of fuel to work properly.
There are 2 sides to the diet coin:
1. Food Choices--type of fuel
2. Food Ratios--Fuel Mix
Some of us do well on darker meats and more vegetables, while some of us do well on lighter meat, and more fruits.
Some of us do well on higher fat, higher protein, lower carbs, while others do well on higher carbs, lower fat and lower protein. Others lie somewhere in the middle.
If you don't know your Metabolic Type,
it’s like playing Diet Roulette!
We are all unique in every way. Metabolic Typing recognizes that foods every person metabolizes food in a way unique to that person. So why should we expect that everyone will react the same way to same foods? The truth is that we don't! We all know someone who can eat a whole bag of potato chip and not gain an ounce, but if you almost so much as look at a bag of chips, it goes straight to your hips! We each also gain and lose weight in a way that is unique to us.
What are the goals of the Metabolic Typing Diet?
There are 4 main goals to the Metabolic Typing Diet:
1. Eliminate Hunger and Cravings
2. Sustain Physical Energy Levels
3. Improve Mental Acuity
4. Regulate Emotional Stability
Will it help me lose weight?
Yes. If you are not putting the right fuel in your body in the right proportions, you are not going to burn that fuel properly, which may slow your metabolism all together. If you put in the right fuel, you burn it instead of storing it.
If you put Diesel fuel in an unleaded engine, it'll slow down and stop. Likewise, put gasoline in a steam engine, and you get a big burst of flames, and then a it goes out just as quickly.
Is Metabolic Typing very restrictive?
No, because most of the foods recommended you probably already enjoy!
Are there any resources I can turn to?
1. Ask a Metabolic Typing Advisor, like Dr. Kevin Roberge.
2. Read The Metabolic Typing Diet by William Wolcott and Trish Fahey.
How do I discover my Metabolic Type?
There is a 142 part questionaire which assesses your Dietary Tendencies, Physical Traits and even Psychological Characteristics. All of these factors are taken in to account in determining what your genetic dietary tendencies are. This questionaire is in effect a lab test. The results are given to a Certified Metabolic Typing Advisor, and used to determine your Metabolic Type, food type requirements and fuel mix that is right for you.
