Welcome to Downtown Integrative Health Group

As a patient-centred natural health care clinic, it's all about you; your health care goals and your treatment options. (Click here to view our complete Mission Statement)

Whatever your portal of entry (Chiropractic, Naturopathy, Massage Therapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture), we have a clinical and administrative team available to help you achieve those goals.

Our forms are online for your convenience but will needed to printed out. You can bring them with you to your fist visit or send them ahead by fax to our office at: 403-262-1371. If you can, include any tests results you might have or inform our staff of where previous X-rays, MRI's or medical test reports are available. All this information will be reviewed before you are seen.

We respect your time and will do our best to see you on time on your first and subsequent visits.

Available Services

Your Chiropractic Visit

Plan approximately one hour for your personal consultation and examination. It will include a physical, orthopedic, neurological and biomechanical evaluation. This initial visit will be used to establish a working diagnosis and determine the most appropriate treatment options. Unless our examination reveals otherwise, a treatment is provided on the first visit. A detailed report of findings will be provided on a subsequent visit.

Your chiropractic treatment options include:

  • Chiropractic adjustments - used to restore movement in stuck or mis-aligned joints in the spine or extremities. Full spine diversified and activator techniques are available.
  • Decompression therapy (neck and lumbar traction) - used when joint degeneration or disc bulges contribute to pain syndromes
  • Physical Therapeutics such as ultrasound and interferential current therapy - great for athletic strains and sprains
  • Soft tissue therapies such as Active Release Techniques (ART) or Graston Technique - used to address scar tissue or adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments
  • Medical Acupuncture and dry needling, such as intramuscular stimulation (IMS) - used to interrupt chronic pain patterns generated in soft tissue and neuromuscular junctions
  • Custom orthotics can be prescribed where there are improper foot mechanics.

A patient gown will be provided to women and men can wear shorts. (Bring your own if you like).

Subsequent visits vary in length and depend on what is done. For example, a basic chiropractic adjustment may take only 10 minutes. Chiropractic plus an ART or dry needling treatment may take 30 to 45 minutes.

Your chiropractor may also suggest a course of concurrent Massage Therapy or a Functional Muscle Assessment and Exercise Therapy to assist in relaxing and rehabilitating injured or weakened tissues.

A consultation with our Naturopath or TCM Acupuncturist may be indicated depending on the complexity of your complaint.

Your Naturopathic Visit

Plan approximately 60 minutes for your first visit. Following an in-depth examination, your naturopath will perform a physical examination. Based on this information, a customized treatment plan will be presented and could include:

  • Homeopathic preparations
  • Dietary modifications and supplements
  • Acupuncture
  • Prolotherapy and Biopuncture

Subsequent visits are usually 20 to 30 minutes.

No special clothing is needed.

Your naturopath may also suggest a course of concurrent chiropractic, massage or Traditional Chinese acupuncture.

Detoxification packages include massage therapy.

Your Massage Therapy Visit

Sessions are available at 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes.

Your modesty will be respected at all times and you can disrobe to your comfort level.

All our therapists are Registered and experienced in using a variety of techniques and tissue depth.

Cranial Sacral Therapy is also offered through one of our therapists.

It is quite common for chiropractic patients to receive a massage prior to or after their adjustments. (It helps things "hold" longer).

Your Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Visit

Plan approximately 75 minutes for your first visit. This includes a TCM assessment of your pulse and tongue followed by a 1 hour treatment. Chinese herbs are often combined with acupuncture treatments to balance your Qi.

Subsequent visits are time based, usually 30 to 60 minutes in length.

No special clothing is required.

Functional Muscle Assessment

Our rehabilitation specialist can evaluate specific movement patterns that might be contributing to a recurrent musculoskeletal pain syndrome such as lower back pain or running injuries.

A 1 hour assessment includes a postural, gait, muscle length and strength analysis. A report will be provided (usually by email) and will contain recommendations. Follow up one on one rehabilitation sessions are often recommended.

The assessment is done in a fully equipped gym adjacent to our clinic and has a men's and women's locker room with showers. Please bring gym type clothing and footwear for your assessment.

Billing and Payment Options

Acupuncture, which would include TCM acupuncture and dry-needling (IMS).

Naturopathy, which would include nutritional and therapeutic supplements and Cold Laser.

Massage therapy which would include relaxation, deep tissue and Cranial Sacral techniques.

Health Spending Accounts are discretionary and can be used to pay for all of our services and products.

Note: In the past, Alberta Health Care provided some coverage for a portion of the chiropractic fee. This ended July 1, 2009 as a result of provincial budget cutbacks. This affects those without insurance coverage such as some seniors and the unemployed or those on disability. It is our policy to address barriers that prevent access to appropriate health care services, such as chiropractic, and we will work with those people who have financial constraints. Please talk to our clinic manager to make arrangements - 403-262-1121.
